The 1601 series (through 2004) used a 3/4-inch pin with a 2-1/2 inch barrel spacing that differs from the post-2004 spec by a quarter inch, enough that a mismatched hinge set will bind in the first season. The 9100 estate series carries a heavier 1-inch pin and a cast receiver bracket that cracks rather than bends, which is your clue: a cracked receiver means the gate frame itself has racked and needs welding, not just a bolt-on replacement.

The current 1602 and 1603 series standardized on the 3/4-inch pin with 2-3/4 inch spacing, and DoorKing’s own replacement hinges (part 2600-010) are still available. We also carry aftermarket equivalents from Elite and Linear that match the spec at roughly two-thirds the cost, though we default to OEM on any gate still under warranty. To identify your series, check the operator housing label or the casting number on the hinge barrel itself, usually visible once the gate is cracked open to 45 degrees.

• The gate hangs lower on the latch side than the hinge side. This usually means the top hinge barrel has wallowed out or the weld between the hinge plate and gate frame has cracked. • Visible cracks at the weld between the vertical stile and horizontal rail. These start hairline-thin and propagate fast in Illinois weather. Once a crack opens, water freezes in it, the gap widens, and the gate goes from repairable to replacement-candidate in a single hard winter.
• The keypad or remote triggers the operator, but the gate moves unevenly or reverses. DoorKing’s obstruction logic is sensitive to current draw spikes. A binding hinge or racked frame can fool the board into thinking it hit a car, when the real problem is mechanical resistance.
